The standard definition of Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), sometimes known as Hughes syndrome, is: “a disorder of the immune system that causes an increased risk of blood clots”.
The NHS says:
“People with APS are at greater risk of developing conditions such as: DVT (deep vein thrombosis, a blood clot that usually develops in the leg
arterial thrombosis (a clot in an artery), which can cause a stroke or heart attack blood clots in the brain, leading to problems with balance, mobility, vision, speech and memory
Pregnant women with APS also have an increased risk of having a miscarriage, although the exact reasons for this are uncertain.”

The NHS goes on to say:
“APS is an autoimmune condition. This means the immune system, which usually protects the body from infection and illness, attacks healthy tissue by mistake.
In APS, the immune system produces abnormal antibodies called antiphospholipid antibodies. These target proteins attached to fat molecules (phospholipids), which makes the blood more likely to clot. It’s not known what causes the immune system to produce abnormal antibodies.”

“the clinical spectrum of APS encompasses additional manifestations that can affect many organs and cannot be explained exclusively by patients being in a prothrombotic state; clinical manifestations not listed in the classification criteria (known as extra-criteria manifestations) include neurologic manifestations (chorea, myelitis and migraine), haematologic manifestations (thrombocytopenia and haemolytic anaemia), livedo reticularis, nephropathy and valvular heart disease.”
also Tinnitus, Chronic Fatigue, Digestive issues, Erectile dysfunction … and the list goes on.
So they have a narrative: “an autoimmune disease that causes blood clots” … that does not quite fit everything about it: “cannot be explained exclusively by patients being in a prothrombotic state”. Is there another narrative that might fit better ? Maybe… the Sympathetic Nervous System:
Chop the head of a chicken or a goat and it’ll run around for quite some time. This shows that the nerves that control movement are not in the main brain in the skull – they
are in the mini-brains that lie along the spine – the ganglion of the Sympathetic Nervous System.
The sympathetic nervous system does not just control movement but also the monitoring and repair mechanisms of pretty much your whole body. These ganglion lie right
next to the lymph nodes along the spine and are very closely connected with them and hence your immune system.
So maybe Antiphospholipid syndrome is this:
You have a physical trauma injury: a car crash/horse fall level accident and this compresses your spine and reduces the functioning of your ganglion that lie along side it and hance all the repair and control mechanisms of your body and upsets your immune system as well. This would then account for all the “extra-criteria manifestations” and your compromised immune system may then be producing faulty anti-bodies that then cause the clotting issues.
So the question is: if you have Antiphospholipid syndrome, have you had a bad accident previous to it ? What can happen is that you have such a physical trauma injury but you carry it and have no symptoms, but then years later you have say an emotional shock or a bio/chemical shock – a bad vaccine reaction, a bad flu, something you might otherwise brush off, but this then
becomes the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
The other question is: if you have extra-criteria manifestations then when you google each of these that you have with “autonomic nervous system” or Sympathetic nervous system” do they turn up ? – likely so.
If so… it might be fixable by fixing the damage to your Sympathetic nervous system.

Non of these patients had had a test for antiphospholipid antibodies, but if their immune systems were also under stress then maybe they would
have come up positive.
So… maybe… it’s a reasonable idea; worth a look at and maybe a try.
